Pile Pot

Pile Pot, Ceramic Arts
Pile Pot
Pile Pot is a ceramic vessel that was thrown upside down on the potter's wheel to create a rounded bottom. I extruded coils of clay and allowed them to stiffen before scoring and slipping them to the sides of the pot. This pot spent most of its early life upside down. Once it became bone-dry it was flipped over. This piece was raku fired using a glaze that produces cracks on the surface of the work. To make these cracks more prominent I took India Ink and rubbed it into the surface of the pot. This work was inspired by the Pile Dwellings or "Stilt Homes" found around the Alps.
